Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Chief Campus Police – Camden for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Reporting directly to the Vice President of Public Safety / Chief of University Police, the Chief of Campus Police will be responsible for the development and operation of Rutgers University-Camden police and security programs.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Will oversee and address day-to-day operational issues at the Rutgers Police Department Camden Division.
Coordinates the long-term and short-term planning of events (regular and special) as well as managing the recruitment hiring, and promotional process for personnel assigned to the Camden Division of the Rutgers Police Department.
The Chief of Campus Police determines staffing assignments, policing methodologies and other local priorities to address the safety and security needs of the Rutgers University-Camden community.
Maintains partnerships with county and local law enforcement leadership to coordinate the essential protection, enforcement, crime prevention, and investigation practices throughout the Rutgers University-Camden community.
Responsible for the establishment, maintenance and monitoring of the personnel selection and training, organizational discipline and community relations criteria in accordance with state statutory regulations and University Police guidelines. Insures that the various police units' operating standards, practices and regulations adhere to the New Jersey State Statutes and meet the University needs.
The Chief of Campus Police is responsible for ensuring the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards as determined by the Executive Director of Public Safety / Chief of University Police.
The Chief also partakes in the strategic planning covering the use of resources, coordinating activities, and ensuring high quality police and security services. The police chief contributes to the development and implementation of projects and programs to maximize police services in coordination with the university's administration, Chancellor's office, other university departments, and public and private organizations.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science or related field; graduate of an accredited New Jersey State Police training school is mandatory; must be a commissioned police officer under Chapter 18A of the New Jersey State Statutes.
Must have minimum of eight years experience as a commissioned police officer; three years at a command level position , in an intermediate to medium size police organization (preferably in a large university environment).
Experience in a major government, municipality, federal agency may be substituted, provided at least three years involved a highly diverse group of people in enforcement, prevention and protection program servicing an equivalent population to a university community.
