The Barnstable County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) is seeking an experienced corrections professional to serve as Superintendent. The Superintendent holds legal responsibility for the care and custody of all individuals committed to the BCSO and provides strategic leadership and oversight for all corrections-related functions. This role also oversees law enforcement and public safety operations, as well as the BCSO Maintenance Division.
As a key member of the Executive Command Team, the Superintendent collaborates closely with the Chief of Staff, Chief of Human Resources and Organizational Culture, Chief of Inmate Programs and Services, Chief Financial Officer, and General Counsel to support the effective administration of the agency.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess extensive experience in corrections, with a strong background in executive administrative or management roles. Demonstrated expertise in personnel management, correctional operations, and administrative policy is required.

The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office is a law enforcement and public safety office of the Commonwealth. The BCSO’s main function is the operation of the Correctional Facility (BCCF), which was built in 2004 and is located just outside Joint Base Cape Cod in Bourne, MA. The BCCF has 12 housing units (pods) which accommodate a maximum of 588 male and female inmates. The facility accepts both male and female pre-arraignment detainees, pre-trial detainees, and sentenced inmates. The facility houses all detainees/inmates from Nantucket and all female detainees/inmates from Martha’s Vineyard. Inmates sentenced to the BCCF can serve no more than a 2.5-year sentence on a single charge. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office operates a regional Emergency Communications Center which provides 911 dispatch for 10 fire departments, 7 towns, and Joint Base Cape Cod as well as CMED services and Fire Department mutual aid for all of Barnstable County. The BCSO has a fleet maintenance division to manage its own fleet and a radio technicians division that services the BCSO and all the emergency departments in Barnstable County. The BCSO also operates a Civil Process unit and a Bureau of Criminal Investigations to conduct fingerprinting, crime scene analysis and evidence gathering to support the municipal police departments across Barnstable County.
