JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Police Communications Supervisor, this position provides telephone and radio dispatching services to inform and direct campus police patrol units to incidents requiring their attention; provides information to students, staff, faculty and the public. This position receives; relays and records police alarms, intradepartmental calls, calls for service, non-emergency and emergency calls.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors security radio and telephone network and perform dispatcher duties for security operations.
Maintains log of security shift activities, accept requests for assistance and complaints by telephone.
Receives, relays, and records police alarms, other messages, and signals coming in over the police communication system; enters information into Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System (ARMS).
Broadcasts orders to police patrol units to investigate complaints or incidents and relays instructions and/or questions.
Receives, transmits and otherwise operates various communication devices and computerized information system, to include the Siveillance VMS system.
Maintains current frequency modulation checks for all cars and periodically checks to measure frequency modulation deviations of transmitters.
Monitors the Siveillance VMS system observing for behavior and activity that is disruptive, destructive, or criminal in nature and initiates appropriate responses.
