Department        POLICE SERVICES (IN-PD-IUINA)                Job Summary        Assist the Division Chief of Police in providing leadership and oversight for law enforcement and safety for the campus. In coordination with the Chief, develops, implements, and continuously improves a comprehensive operation that satisfies University policy and mission related to public safety. Acts in capacity of senior departmental officer when higher level officers are absent.     Fundamental Responsibilities:       Works with public safety leadership to develop strategic plan(s) for campus/division operations and university-wide public safety planning; establishes and maintains plans and operations in compliance with university, state and federal requirements; reviews and interprets laws and regulations affecting the university and the preservation of public safety.   Develops, recommends, and implements policies and procedures; serves in advisory capacity to public safety senior leaders and other university officials for public safety concerns and methods for increased efficiencies.   Manages, trains, instructs, evaluates, and supervises public safety staff, including their work performance for completeness, accuracy and compliance within established university and departmental standards; consults with public safety leadership on operational and personnel issues and conducts progressive discipline as necessary.   Oversees and ensures compliance with various local, state, and federal reporting requirements.   Completes project assignments from Division Chief of Police and other public safety leaders (for example, policy construction and development, security needs/issues, etc.).   Compiles and assimilates data, makes recommendations to senior public safety leadership, prepares statistical reports and provides analysis relative to the department&#39;s goals and objectives.   Provides support for planning all major special events; athletic, social, or of a cultural nature; with focus on crowd control, traffic control and security operations; provides guidance and direction, ensures adequate staffing, space and facilities for the subsequent performance of duties.   May contribute and serve on various university and/or local, state, or federal law enforcement committees.                  Qualifications          EDUCATION       Required        Bachelor&#39;s degree.        Preferred        Degree in business administration, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field.     Master&#39;s degree in a related field.        WORK EXPERIENCE       Required        Eight years of law enforcement experience that includes four years in a supervisory/leadership role.     Project management experience involving engagement and collaboration across a wide spectrum of diverse functions.        Preferred        University law enforcement experience. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES       Required        Possess a valid driver&#39;s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University within six months of appointment. After receiving a call, the dispatcher will determine the appropriate level of response and dispatch the personnel to the call. UWPD has an outstanding opportunity for a  Police Dispatcher/Call Receiver  to perform specialized and varied work in the Police Department Communications Center to include receiving and transmitting law enforcement and related public safety information. This position is responsible for answering department telephones including emergency 911 telephone calls, determining the nature of the caller&#8217;s business and dispatching police mobile units, or referring the call to the appropriate resource; prioritizing and routing emergency calls to fire, police and emergency medical services. There is often a high volume of calls, many of which involve accidents or crimes in progress. The Dispatcher will operate radio dispatching equipment, various computer systems, and associated recording equipment.&#xa0; Additionally, Police Dispatcher/Call Receivers compile information and write and generate accurate reports. The department strongly subscribes and operates under the tenants of community oriented policing and service. The Communications Center operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. SPOs provide high profile, uniformed public safety services on campus and other nearby sites owned or controlled by the University. SPOs provide premise security, engage in preventive patrols in vehicles, on bicycles, and on foot, and perform other support tasks for the police department.
