 &#xa0; 
 The Police Chief reports to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration ( VCFA ) and oversees a staff of 46, including 34 full-time sworn officers. The Chief must quickly become a trusted advisor to both the Chancellor and&#xa0; VCFA . 
 The Chief is responsible for the administration, operation, strategic planning, and financial oversight of a comprehensive, full-service police agency. The position oversees a budget of approximately $4 million. The Chief provides broad input across the University on matters of safety, security, and law enforcement. The&#xa0; UNCG &#xa0;Police Department is proud of its&#xa0; CALEA &#xa0;certification. 
 
 Provide leadership, mentoring, guidance, and direction to the staff of the University Police to ensure a safe and secure campus community to further the mission of the University. This is accomplished by providing effective customer-oriented campus security services while actively enforcing laws and regulations, responding to emergencies, and preventing crime. 
 
 
 Develop, administer, and evaluate policies and procedures for the University Police to ensure the appropriate protocols reflect new case law, legislation, and trends in University policing. The Chief works with administration to ensure policies, programs and procedures are consistent with the university mission. Utilize&#xa0; CALEA &#xa0;standards to support and enhance program development and to maintain accreditation. 
 
 
 Coordinate all security and safety needs related to special events on campus including, but not limited to, day to day operations, visiting dignitaries, organized protests/marches, and natural or man-made disasters. 
 
 
 Mentor subordinates on leadership and the resolution of personnel, procedural, and operational problems. Ensure uniformity and accuracy in work products. 
 
 
 Consult and inform the campus community of campus safety issues and partner with other areas of the campus community on crime prevention and the development of campus safety initiatives. 
 
 
 Ensure that all sworn personnel are trained in accordance with the state&#8217;s law enforcement officer certification program, and that all other personnel are properly trained. 
 
 
 Ensure that all officers and cadets complete diversity and crisis intervention training. 
 
 
 Effectively manage financial resources. Identify funding opportunities and revenue sources to meet growing demands for police services. Plan and project future operating needs and set budget priorities accordingly. 
 
 
 Assure the integrity of records and evidence, to include oversight of data and reporting functions of a police department. 
 
 
 Serve as liaison and partner for the University with other local, county, state and federal law enforcement and criminal justice agencies; develop and execute mutual aid agreements, procedures, and standards in accordance with NC state law and&#xa0; CALEA &#xa0;accreditation standards. 
 
 
 Perform public relations activities using departmental policies and procedures, city ordinances, and other departmental information resources to increase public awareness of law enforcement&#8217;s role in the community, represent the department at community functions, and establish favorable community, media, and other public relations. 
 
 Master&#8217;s degree, preferable in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field or a a bachelor&#8217;s degree, and an equivalent amount of education and experience. 
 Certification as a North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer as required by the North Carolina Justice Training and Standards Commission within one year. 
 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in law enforcement with at least 5 years in a supervisory role. 
 Demonstrated team-player with impeccable integrity, financial management skills, and a focus on customer service, employee engagement and results. 
 Must have excellent interpersonal skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence; the sensitivity to effectively interact with a diverse community and the ability to work with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds. 
 Strong verbal and written communications skills. 
 Knowledge of network systems and the integration of various technologies into daily law enforcement functions. 
 An in-depth knowledge of the Clery Act requirements and Title IX processes, including knowledge of emergency alert and timely warning notification tools and processes. 
 Experience with emergency management to include incident command and crisis management. 
 A commitment to sustaining and advancing the department&#8217;s diversity; strong service orientation and a desire to engage students, staff and faculty with their safety concerns.

The Associate Vice Chancellor is responsible for ensuring that university security, safety programs and protection programs including crime prevention; campus patrol; investigations; crime reporting and case management; and disaster preparedness are effectively managed and contribute to the overall safety and security of the campus. This position reports to the Vice Chancellor of Business and Finance. Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Police Department ( UPD ) includes a staff of over 70 sworn and non-sworn personnel and an additional 20 employees, organized into several areas: Office of the Chief, Administrative Services, Support Services, Patrol,  CID  (Criminal Investigations Division), K-9, Crime Prevention, Community Policing, Telecommunications, Accreditation, University Security and Contracted Security. All commissioned officers are certified police officers in accordance with rules established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission; have successfully completed training and passed the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards licensing exam; and are in compliance with the Commission&#8217;s mandated in-service training that is required on an annual basis. Internal job number:  003906 Requirements: Master&#8217;s Degree in Criminal Justice or Public Administration and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in higher education campus Public Safety, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  If a bachelor&#8217;s is the terminal degree, seven years of experience is required. Must have excellent communication skills as well as administrative, organizational and supervisory skills. Must be able to handle sensitive issues in a diverse community. Certification as a law enforcement officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission. Out of state candidates must have successfully completed a Basic Law Enforcement Training course accredited by the state of transfer to be considered. Out-of-state candidates cannot have a break in service from the out of state agency of more than one year. All out-of-state candidates will have to complete 96 hours (or more) of training to be eligible for NC Certification and pass the state exam.
