Job Description Summary:
The Chief of Police Operations reports directly to the Vice President for Financial Services and Operations and ensures that all Department of Public Safety operations align with the institution's goals and directives.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATIONANDEXPERIENCE
Typically, a bachelor's degree is required; however, equivalent training and experience may be considered for exceptional candidates such as those who have attended the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command.
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible roles in campus safety and/or law enforcement, including substantial leadership and management experience.
Certified as a police officer or eligible for a provisional certification.
Must have or be willing to obtain certification through the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC).
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Special Police Officer certification for the State of Maryland, and comply with all Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission requirements.
Job Requirements:
PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions are required.

Must be able to work flexible hours.
Expected to be able to supervise various shifts that include 24-hour, 7 day a week coverage 365 days a year
Must complete annual in-service training and fire arms qualifications
Ability to possess a Maryland Handgun permit required
Valid Maryland State Motor Vehicle Operator's License
Polygraph Examination: Required to take a polygraph examination.
Psychological Evaluation: Required to complete a psychological screening.
Medical and Drug Screening: Must pass a full medical and drug screening.
Applicant Physical Requirement Test (APRT): Must pass the APRT.
MPCTC Police Administrative Training: Required to complete the MPCTC Administrator Training within one year of hire
Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
