Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS)

Description: Provides professional advice, technical assistance, and information on a wide range of police management issues to cities, city officials (elected and appointed), and their staff in the state of Tennessee. Additionally, the position provides police management assistance to Tennessee professional organizations and agencies such as the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police, Tennessee City Management Association, Tennessee Association of Municipal Clerks and Recorders, Tennessee Municipal League, and the Tennessee Municipal League Risk Management Pool. The police management consultant provides professional advice and technical assistance by providing direct basic field services, projects and studies for individual municipalities, training needs analysis, program development and instruction, development models, interpretation and application of police related laws, research associated with police management issues and the publication of articles, bulletins, and technical reports. The police management consultant serves as an in-house expert to MTAS staff. In addition to providing direct customer assistance, researches and develops technical reports and publications. Performs other special work as assigned by the Technical Consulting Program Manager, the Assistant Director, or the Executive Director. Assists other consultants in the performance of projects and participates in team projects.
