The 24-hour OUPD dispatch center is responsible for dispatching police, fire, and emergency medical response to the public. Extensive dispatch/public safety training is provided. Our dispatchers are essential to the overall function of the OUPD and they provide meaningful work through assisting the public by handling walk up lobby traffic, answering phones, dispatching police to service calls and monitoring fire alarms, B & E alarms and CCTV cameras throughout campus. Our dispatchers utilize specialized computer systems to secure necessary information for law enforcement for law enforcement personnel. OUPD us a twenty-four (24) hour a day, seven day a week, 365 day a year operation which requires working assigned 12 hours shifts under the general supervision of the Shift Sergeant, Dispatch Supervisor (Lieutenant).
Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of two years responsible work experience.
Possess voice and speech characteristics (e.g. tone and diction) and language and communication skills suitable for telephone and radio operations.
Ability to work various shifts.
Ability to use computer systems.
Ability to operate an OakWIN radio console or basic familiarity with using a multi talk group digital trunked radio system.
Familiarity with CLEMIS applications such as CAD, CLEAR, LEIN, Property and Evidence and impound is desirable.
Ability to operate a digital CCTV surveillance system as well as intrusion and fire alarm monitoring workstations.
Ability to attend to the needs of visitors in the lobby while maintaining control of the dispatch center.
