The University of California Police Department provides a full range of law enforcement services in support of the academic and public service missions of the University of California, serving a diverse community of more than 43,000 students and 14,000 faculty & staff in the vibrant City of Berkeley, at the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to the traditional role of a police department, we also carry out a variety of proactive educational, outreach and crime prevention programs. We pride ourselves in a professional and high-quality delivery of service, which we provide with sensitivity to the unique concerns of the University community. At the Berkeley campus, we employ approximately 48 sworn peace officers, 70 full time civilian employees and 35 part-time students. Responsibilities
Administrative Assistance to the Chief of Police and the Accreditation Process
- Manages and plans the daily operations for the executive's office.
- Functions as the gatekeeper, understanding the requirements of the executive, in order to prioritize issues according to urgency and to allocate time for scheduled events, travel and meetings.
- Handles the details of a variety of matters on behalf of the executive and performs other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
- Coordinates communication between UCPD and Chancellor's Immediate Office, outside agencies, community and personnel.
- Drafts department wide communications based upon general guidelines.
- Develops and implements procedures for supply inventory and equipment maintenance.
- Administers and oversees department training in compliance with UCPD, University, California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), IACLEA, Jeanne Clery Act, Title IX, VAWA, State, Federal standards and requirements
- Uses complex computerized databases and applications (e.g. PowerDMS, Lexipol) and general statistical standards in reviewing, evaluating and recording information.
- Assists the accreditation manager by providing support of compliance actions.
- Assists in the preparation of agency reports to IACLEA as required and directed.
- Acts as liaison between the accreditation manager and the patrol division during the accreditation process.
- Administers programs and projects, compiles data, prepares reports and documentation, and determines course of action for the Chief of Police.
Required Qualifications
- Possesses advanced administrative support principles and processes.
- Demonstrates teamwork by contributing to the overall success of the organization through flexibility, cooperation and communication: possesses advising and counseling skills.
- Strong skills to communicate effectively with all levels of the staff, faculty, alumni/donors, students and external constituencies: both verbally and in writing.
- Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service.
- Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
- Ability to use high-level discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Education - Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent experience / training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Applies principles and practices of routine analytical research and project coordination
- Thorough knowledge of and/or ability to learn common campus, and other departments specific computer application programs ( e.g. PowerDMS , Lexipol).
