The City of Mill Valley is seeking a progressive leader and experienced police management professional to lead the 28-member department. As the new Police Chief, the ideal candidate will be an inspiring and team-oriented leader with an incredible work ethic known for adhering to high standards and service excellence. The City desires a law enforcement professional and leader who has a proven track record of working with diverse groups and individuals, to build and maintain relationships resulting in constructive compromise and resolution. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment and value for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives; is adept at developing community partnerships, and; has a willingness to explore, innovate and create solutions.
Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree; ten (10) years’ experience in all phases of municipal law enforcement; with at least five (5) years in a management capacity or equivalent. A Master's degree or additional leadership and/or postgraduate education is highly desirable.

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in all major phases of municipal police work; with at least five (5) years in a management capacity.
Possession of a Management Certificate issued by the California State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License.
Possession and maintenance of firearms qualification.
