Sergeant position will have personal direction and supervision over a team of officers, and will be under general supervision of the Captain of Patrol Operations. Work involves supervision of police officers, assigning tasks, analyzing and evaluating officer reports, and participating in officer training programs. Performs commissioned law enforcement work in providing police protection at university campuses. Manages work schedules and assignments, reviews work while in progress and checks completed work through visual observation and reports to assure that proper police protection is provided. Responsibilities will include conducting investigations and case management, performance evaluations for subordinate officers, authorizing vacation requests, and interpreting and communicating laws, university and department regulations and policies to ensure compliance. Coordinates with oncoming supervisors on activities occurring and administrative directions issued during previous shift. Inspects personnel and equipment for adherence to departmental standards. Answers calls and complaints received by radio, telephone, or in person involving emergencies and non-emergencies. Maintains care and control of authorized equipment and vehicles, including firearms. Provides critical-incident oversight by taking charge at the scene of major crimes, fires, chemical hazards and other incidents relating to public safety and coordinates support for other responding units. Sergeants may be assigned to major campus events outside normal work hours. Hiring incentive available for certified sergeants.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
High School diploma is required. Three (3) years of experience in law enforcement is required. Must have current law enforcement certification. If certification is from outside Nebraska, the ability to obtain Nebraska law enforcement certification within one year. Valid driver's license and/or the ability to obtain a Nebraska driver's license is required.
Ability to speak/understand a second language.
