Campus Police Officer I - Per Diem: PT, non-benefited position on an on-call/as-needed basis
About Greenfield Community College: Greenfield Community College is located in the beautiful and historic Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, between the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and the fertile farmland of the Connecticut River watershed. GCC is a public community college serving over 4,800 people annually in credit courses and credit-free workshops. Job Description: EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Patrols assigned campus buildings and adjacent areas;
Guards against trespass, theft, vandalism, or assault;
Exercises police powers;
Investigates crimes and preserves crime scenes and fire sites for examination by experts;
Investigates traffic accidents on campus;
Enforces campus traffic and safety regulations including directing traffic, assisting operators of disabled vehicles, writing tickets, and inspecting parking permits;
Operates two-way radios, emergency medical equipment, and office machines including computers;
Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At least one year appropriate experience in law enforcement/public safety;
At a minimum must have graduated from the M.P.T.C Basic Reserve Police Academy and have an Associate's degree or higher in Criminal Justice. Applicants must be eligible for appointment as a Special State Police Officer under Chapter 22C, Section 63 without additional training.
Ability and willingness to carry a firearm and complete firearms training and certification per State and College requirements;
Ability to obtain Certification in CPR, First Aid, Basic Life Support and First Responder
Ability to obtain a Class A License to Carry a firearm;
Possess a current and valid Massachusetts Class D motor vehicle operator's license, or equivalent from another state with the ability to obtain a Massachusetts license and a clean driving record;
Giving oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner;
Dealing tactfully with others so as to maintain harmonious working relationships;
Dealing effectively with people under physical and/or emotional stress;
Maintaining a calm demeanor in stressful and emergency situations while retaining the ability to make quick decisions;
Exercising discretion with confidential information and using sound judgment;
Following oral and written instructions;
Motivating others and coordinating their efforts to accomplish assigned work objectives;
Preparing general reports and maintaining accurate records;
Accurately recording information given orally when gathering information through questioning individuals;
Gathering information through examination of records and documents and assembling this information according to established procedures;
Establishing a rapport with persons from different ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds;
Analyzing the applicability of data, drawing conclusions, and making appropriate recommendations;
Adapting to changing work situations;
Lifting heavy objects or persons and standing or walking for prolonged periods of time.
An understanding of the correct spelling, principles, punctuation, and usage of the English language; and
Physical stamina and endurance.
Certification in CPR, First Aid, Basic Life Support and First Responder;
Possession of a Massachusetts Class A License to Carry a firearm;
Experience working on a College/University campus;
Graduate of the SSPO or Municipal Police Academy;
Demonstrated commitment to promoting domestic diversity issues and/or global multiculturalism.

This position will serve as on-call/fill-in staff and will not have regular scheduled hours. Candidate will be subject to a Criminal Background check and will be required to take a psychological test to determine emotional and psychological suitability before appointment to the position.
SALARY: $21.20 per hour. Hours per week vary based on need.
