Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Police, the Captainâ“Field Services provides leadership and performs direct oversight of the police department Field Services Bureau. The Captain performs direct oversight of the Patrol Services Division, Criminal Investigations Unit, Community Relations Unit, K-9 Unit, and the University Police Department Monitoring Station. Prevents and investigates crime, enforces the law, and resolves conflict within the University of Virginia. The Patrol Services Division is a 24-hour operation on campus and designated boundaries within the surrounding community.
Performs effectively in any of the Police Captain roles including, but not limited to the Support Services Bureau and others areas as designated. The Police Captain is a member of the University of Virginia Police Department Command Staff and reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Police.
