Job Description Summary
Position Summary: Operates the Wake Forest University Police Department telephone console, two-way-radio communications console, DCI (North Carolina Division of Criminal Information) computer system, Lenel computerized card access system to various buildings, Simplex computerized fire alarm system, departmental computer aided dispatch system, departmental computerized records system and personal computers. This position will be for nights, weekends, holidays, during inclement weather and is subject to hours beyond or outside normal scheduled shift. Subject to short notice or emergency call-in.
Receives incoming routine and emergency calls, and dispatches and maintains contact with police. Operate multiple talk group two-way radio system and departmental telephone lines.
Maintains a courteous and helpful attitude to all persons so as to project a favorable impression of the department and Wake Forest University.
Responds to emergency situations which may involve contacting the Winston-Salem Police Department, Fire Department, Forsyth County Emergency Medical Services, Rescue Squads, on-campus emergency teams and other departments and agencies.
Notifies the Supervisor of Police Communications of all service difficulties, complaints, console or equipment problems and major emergencies as soon as possible.
Utilizes DCI computer terminal hardware and data within security regulations prescribed by North Carolina State Law, including protection from unauthorized persons accessing any data/information.
Monitors Lenel card access system, dispatching appropriate personnel when necessary. Maintains necessary liaisons to keep system functional and reports all defects/problems. Issues temporary access cards to appropriate individuals and cancels cards when reported stolen or lost.
Monitors the university's fire and burglar alarm systems and takes appropriate actions when necessary.
Maintains a neat/clean workplace.
Monitors video cameras.
Accurately records all events and activities during each shift utilizing appropriate forms and computer-aided dispatch in accordance with Federal/State laws, University Policies and Departmental rules and regulations.
Attends training as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Keeps University Environmental Health and Safety Manager apprised of all fire alarms, medical calls, hazardous material spills/problems, or any safety concerns reported, in accordance with Departmental/University policies.
Keeps Residence Life and Housing staff apprised of any situations or incidents in accordance with Departmental/University policies.
Assists the Department of Parking Management with locating vehicle operators as needed, parking lot closings and parking complaints.
