Job Summary/Basic Function: SUMMARY: Function: To provide campus safety, information, and aid to all citizens as circumstances require. To oversee the police-technology needs of the Lamar University Police Department; including the installation and maintenance of in-car camera and body worn camera systems, alarm systems, and police related technologies.
Scope: Supports the operations of Lamar University and its Police Department by fulfilling the following functions:
Conduct complex operational level analysis utilizing existing policies and practices; providing input and recommending solutions to problems at the Police Department;
Plan, implement, direct, and oversee police-technology needs
This position will liaison with the Lamar University Information Technology department to ensure efficient and effective technologies are implemented at the Police Department.
Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).
DUTIES: Must be able to formulate appropriate solutions to difficult situations with minimal supervision and with only general guidelines.
In addition, this position requires:
Knowledge of electronic security methods, standards and practices
Public speaking and presentation experience
Good verbal and written communications skills
Computer skills, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access, and web development ability
Must have excellent database management skills
Knowledge of computer programming and technologies related to fire alarm, security and other low voltage systems
Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and take initiative in a variety of areas.
Periodic: Perform Campus Safety duties, to include; safety escorts, sporting event security, shuttle bus driving, and other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION: Received: Work is reviewed by the Support Services Unit Commander through activities, reports, and observation of performance.
Given: As assigned and delegated by the assigned supervisor; in their absence.
Minimum Qualifications: EDUCATION: Required: 1.) 90 hours of credit from an accredited College or University in Computer Technology or related field.
EXPERIENCE: Required: 1.) Experience in a position that is of a similar scope and function.
EQUIPMENT: Required: Must be proficient in the operation and safety procedures of all technology equipment utilized by the Lamar University Police Department.
ACCURACY: Proficiency in all phases of duties performed. Must demonstrate logical and effective problem solving ability. Must be able to provide credible testimony in a court of law.
PHYSICALCAPABILITIES: Duties involve driving, walking, standing, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching above head, lifting, lowering, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holding. Good overall physical condition and vision, ability to hear and speak and full use of arms and legs.
WORKINGCONDITIONS: Usual: Exposure to outside weather conditions. May be required to work either day or night and on holidays. Must hold a valid drivers license not subject to suspension. Must be eligible to drive a University owned or leased motor vehicle. Effective written and oral communications skills. Knowledge and skills in emergency medical procedures, first aid and CPR techniques.
Preferred Qualifications: EDUCATION: Preferred: 1.) Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or related field
EXPERIENCE: Preferred: 1.) At least one-year experience as a Lamar University Community Service Officer, Telecommunications Officer, Security Guard or other support services position.
