This position is responsible to secure all University property and maintain the safety off students, faculty and staff. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, working under general supervision of a police sergeant or lieutenant; patrolling property under the jurisdiction of PVAMU in Waller County by bicycle or foot; investigating illegal or suspicious activities, persons, establishments, and accidents; taking reports and performing preliminary investigations; reporting all violations and providing assistance to the public; preventing crime, suppressing disturbances, issuing citations; testifying in Court and student judicial hearings; and guarding and transporting prisoners. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to interact with the public daily; respond to emergency calls and taking appropriate action; and provide assistance to other law enforcement and community departments or agencies. Functioning as a Training Coordinator to ensure compliance with the state TCLEOSE training mandates and functioning as a Victim Assistance Coordinator for the department is vital to this position.
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 45 hours of college credit from an accredited University.
One year of related experience as a licensed Police Officer
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic certification. Valid driver's license.
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related filed
Preferred Experience Requirements:
Six to twelve months experience, 30 semester hours of college study and/or Military Experience
Preferred Licenses/Certifications :
Peace Officer License
If 45 hours of college credit hours is being used to qualify applicant due to applicant not having any prior experience, a copy of an unofficial transcript is required as an attachment to be fully considered. If applicant is serving active duty in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and is substituting experience in place of education, the DD 214 or active duty statement from the U.S. Armed Forces must be attached to the application to be fully considered.
