This position is responsible for providing police/law enforcement presence on university campus and enforcing all criminal laws and violations of criminal penal code of the State of Texas as well as the polices of Prairie View A&M University. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, drafting departmental policies and procedures; creating special event plans; supporting departmental emergency management functions; advising when to arrest subjects; proofreading police reports and assessing campus risk; acting as a liaison when Captain and Chief are absent; supervising Sergeants and entire department which will include scheduling, performance evaluations, career development, providing guidance pertaining to policies, procedures and legal requirements; maintaining and monitoring training records to ensure compliance with University and TCOLE requirements; managing compliance with the Texas Police Chiefs' Association Recognition Program requirement.
High School Diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the TCOLE requirements for an advanced Peace Officer.
Twelve years of experience as a licensed Peace Officer
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) advanced certification. Must have a State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Experience Requirements:
One year experience as a Police Sergeant (in addition to the minimum experience required). Experience in developing and implementing policy and procedures, developing special event plans and providing supporting for law enforcement recognition and accreditation is desired.
Preferred Licenses/Certifications :
TCOLE Master Peace Officer License and National Incident System training
