The incumbent will be responsible for handling emergency and non- emergency telephone calls, operating two-way radios, telecommunications equipment and University Alarm Systems for a police communications center. Specific duties include: receiving and recording messages and instructions involving emergencies, complaints, violations, accidents, and requests for information and assistance; transmitting messages and instructions to officers on patrol; dispatching officers to emergencies and complaints; maintaining logs and preparing reports; using the central fire/burglar alarm system; entering data into the computerized dispatch system and retrieving archived information when needed; performing clerical and filing duties; and performing other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience: Requires a High School Diploma or GED and two years clerical or other related experience. Typing ability required. National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) certification preferred. Must be able to pass NCIC certification class during the first three months of employment. Note: Shift work is required. Weekend, on-call and overtime may be required to provide 24-hour coverage. This position is considered an ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE, which requires working during inclement weather and is subject to mandatory overtime. Note: A background check will be required for this position. A typing or skills test may be required.
