Posting Summary: The University of Virginia Police Department, a nationally accredited law enforcement agency, is seeking certified Police Officers to provide professional police service to the University community. University Police Officers are responsible for enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth, the rules and regulations of the University, and providing a secure environment.
Candidates must be DCJS certified Police Officers in the state of Virginia, have a positive point balance on their driving record, be able to successfully pass a thorough background check, complete pre-employment testing and successfully complete a field training program. University Police Officers must display uncommon integrity and be committed to the highest level of professionalism and excellence.

Required Minimum Level of Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required

Required License or Certification: Valid Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Virginia Driver's License within 90 days of hire. Must have a positive point balance. Operator's license required. Must be a sworn police officer in the State of Virginia. Minimum age 21, US citizen, and successfully pass a background check. Must pass a 14 week field training program.

Possess strong oral and written communications, including writing accurate reports, testifying in court, interacting with the community.
Ability to effectively apply interviewing techniques in a variety of situations, including investigations.
Ability to evaluate situations and routinely make independent and appropriate decisions in unique situations.
Ability to apply Virginia state law in field situations.
Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with the public under varying and often rapidly evolving situations.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including mandatory overtime as a result of unforeseen circumstances and coverage requirements.
Understand and articulate the University's strategic aims and programs.
Ability to successfully complete the field training program.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position and successfully complete all pre-employment testing. Ability to drive department vehicles as required Maintain a valid Virginia State Driver's License with a positive point balance.
Required Computer Applications: Proficient computer skills with the ability to utilize windows-based programs including Microsoft Office as well as records management databases and evidence tracking systems.
