The University of California, Santa Cruz Police Department provides contemporary police services including criminal investigation, community policing, crime prevention and suppression, and site security services to a daily population of over 30,000 people. Under the direction of a Police Sergeant, officers respond to calls related to the protection of life and property, traffic collisions, and emergencies on the UCSC campus and outlying properties. Officers enforce federal and state laws, and University regulations. Officers work closely with the public and University units to identify and solve community problems, make presentations to citizens and groups, as well asinitiate police action, conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations of criminal incidents, disturbances, hazardous incidents, vehicle collisions, and other incidents as assigned. Officers work rotating shifts in diverse weather conditions. Minimum Qualifications
✓ Possess POST Certificate of graduation from a POST Certified academy by date of hire ✓ High School graduate or equivalent ✓ Demonstrated ability to serve and work well with the public, peers, supervision and management ✓ Demonstrated ability to comply with instructions and counsel from supervisors ✓ Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional stance in all emergency situations ✓ Accurate report writing skills including the proper use of grammar, punctuation and spelling Preferred Qualifications
✓ Currently employed as a peace officer for at least 2 years ✓ A Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Special Conditions of Employment
✓ Must be at least 21 years old.
