Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages the personnel and resources of a section of the University of Houston Police Department, which include Patrol, Special Services, Training or Records.
1. Manages all activities and personnel of the assigned section.
2. Supervises personnel, to include training, development and evaluation of performance.
3. Coordinates with other section Lieutenants to ensure department goals and objectives are met.
4. Manages and monitors the section budget.
5. Investigates internal and external complaints against UHPD personnel.
6. Serves as liaison to university departments and other law enforcement agencies.
7. Prepares a variety of recurring reports for management use.
8. Participates in periodic training as required.
9. Performs other job-related duties are assigned.
Requires a 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed or a minimum of 60 college credit hours from a college or university.
Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience in law enforcement and public safety with three (3) of those years having supervisory experience in a Police agency.

This position requires the applicant to pass several phases of reviews and tests such as an oral review, a thorough background check, etc. Applicants that do not pass any phase may re-apply after three months.
Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required, specifically operation of motorized vehicles, computer equipment, and law- enforcement related tools.
A Bachelor's Degree and Campus Law Enforcement experience is preferred, but not required.
