Employing approximately 600 permanent employees and 400 temporary and seasonal employees, the City of Iowa City provides a full range of services including police and fire protection, construction and maintenance of roads, streets and infrastructure, inspection and licensing functions, solid waste collection and recycling services which include the operation of a landfill serving all of Johnson County, a municipal airport, library, recreational activities and cultural events.
