Additionally, Highway 66 serves as the southern scenic gateway into Rocky Mountain National Park, providing an ideal location for not only residents, but also for travelers year-round.
The Organization and the Position: The Town of Mead, Colorado is seeking a career professional to lead the management and operations of the Mead Police Department. The Town of Mead began planning the formation of a municipal police department in 2016 and went live on June 15, 2017. Today, the new Police Chief will lead an organization of three full-time police officers, in addition to the Chief. The Town of Mead is currently pursuing options to add additional officers, providing the new Chief exciting opportunities to recruit staff and build a foundation for the future of the Mead Police Department. The Chief of Police directly reports to the Town Manager. This position is a “Working Chief” who will primarily be required to build, manage, and administer the police department and participate in overall Town Management activities. The Chief will also have supervisory duties and responsibility for direct patrol, traffic safety, community policing, and School Resource Officer and investigative duties as needed.

Collaborator—Works collaboratively with the Town Executive Team, businesses, schools, and various stakeholders throughout the community, to enhance public safety and solve problems.
Excellent organizational and management skills.
Is accountable to the role of Chief of Police, accepting responsibility for difficult decisions.
Highly visible and present leader at community and school events.
Excellent judgment and professional decision making during interactions within the community, treating everyone with respect, fairness, and impartiality.
Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master’s degree would be considered a plus. Candidates must have a minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible local law enforcement experience, including 3 years in a supervisory/command capacity (police leadership and supervisory/management experience). Colorado POST certification, or the ability to acquire Colorado POST certification within six months of appointment is required. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of application and for the duration of employment.
Compensation: The hiring salary range is $90,000 to $110,000, depending on qualifications, with fully paid employee health, dental, vision, life, and short-term disability insurance. The Chief has a take-home vehicle and is required to live within 30 minutes travel time to Town. The Mead Police are members of the Colorado Fire and Police Pension Association (FPPA) and are eligible to participate in a 457 plan (Deferred Compensation). Mead also offers a Flexible Spending Plan with an employee match to $500 and a highly competitive Paid Time Off policy.
