This is a sworn position and serve as the Deputy Chief of Police. The Deputy Chief of Police will supervise the Support Services Captain, Patrol Division Captain, the Criminal Intelligence / Community Oriented Policing Lieutenant and will serve as the Internal Affairs Commander and SWAT Commander. The Deputy Chief reports to the Chief of Police and is considered a senior member of the Department's executive command staff (composed of the Chief of Police, Deputy Chief, and Captains). The Deputy Chief will serve as the Chief of Police in these staff members' absence.
Oversight of all Departmental operations to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and standards.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Experience as a member of senior command staff which includes managing all aspects of a police department containing over 30 sworn police officers. Ability to manage large public events requiring coordination and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and campus departments. Knowledge of CALEA accreditation requirements and ability to maintain accreditation standards.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
3 years as a member of senior command staff with notable decision making experience (managing high risk extraordinary events on campus, SWAT/ALICE related incidents or training, and Internal Affairs management). Managed or coordinated a department that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). Managed a minimum of (35) sworn police officers as a senior member of command in the last three years.
