Posting Summary: The University of Virginia Police Department, a nationally accredited law enforcement agency, is seeking certified Police Officers to provide professional police service to the University community. University Police Officers are responsible for enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth, the rules and regulations of the University, and providing a secure environment.
Candidates must be DCJS certified Police Officers in the state of Virginia, have a positive point balance on their driving record, be able to successfully pass a thorough background check, complete pre-employment testing and successfully complete a field training program. University Police Officers must display uncommon integrity and be committed to the highest level of professionalism and excellence.

Required Minimum Level of Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Preferred Minimum Level of Education: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Specific Degree/Training: Some College Preferred
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: Experience in public contact and dealing with people of different backgrounds
Required License or Certification: Valid Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Virginia Driver's License within 90 days of hire. Operator's license required. Must be able to pass state licensing requirements for a police officer including minimum age 21, US citizen, and successfully pass a background check. Must pass a 14 week field training program.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This position requires competencies that include providing customer service, applying interview techniques, and preparing reports. In addition, officers are expected to know and be able to apply the law in field situations. (Training provided by the department through academies and classes.) They should be able to make good decisions in unique situations based on general guidelines.
