Posting Summary: This position supervises officers, keeps supervisory records, provides officer training, and performs technical activities, enforces laws, responds to emergencies, controls traffic and crowds, prevents crime and provides other services that are essential to the core responsibilities of the police department. This position exists to supervise officers who carry out the core duties of the Police Department to protect lives, health, and property. The position does this by emergency responses, law enforcement, and crowd and traffic control.
Required Minimum Level of Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
Preferred Minimum Level of Education: Associate's Degree
Preferred Specific Degree/Training: Some college is preferred. Abiity to complete the police officer training and meet DCJS certification requirements. Must have or complete the DCJS instructors certification.
Required Minimum Level of Experience: Some - up to 4 years
Required Specific Experience: Must already be DCJS certified as a police officer
Required License or Certification: Valid Virginia Driver's License; Must already be DCJS certified as a police officer
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Should have the ability to supervise personnel, track/train personnel, and provide customer assistance, as well as the ability to maintain a calm, balanced perspective and successfully complete duties in stressful situations; and the ability to analyze situations and use good judgment in a problem solving or crisis situation.
