The Towson University Police Department is currently accepting qualified applicants for a University Police Officer III position to perform the duties of a Police Officer, assist the squad supervisor in the managing the administrative functions of the squad, and function as a supervisor for a small group of police officers in the absence of the squad supervisor by performing leadership and administrative duties.
The University Police Officer (UPO) III patrols the campus in a vehicle, on a bicycle (if certified) and on foot to protect life and property; responds and reacts to calls for service dispatched via radio, "on-view" from persons, or as a result of observed situations; prepares written reports as a result of investigation and inquiry; makes physical arrests or prepares proper charging documents when violation of criminal or traffic law is observed or detected; renders First Aid to victims of incidents consistent with training as a "First Responder"; and processes crime scenes for evidence to include photography, fingerprint dusting, etc., and evidence recovery and submission. Supervisory responsibilities include supervising the minimum staffing levels, assigning personnel to Patrol Areas on campus and equipment needed at beginning of shift, monitoring police radio and responding to the scenes of incidents to supervise the performance of personnel; conducting Administrative Investigations of complaints related to performance of assigned personnel; and monitoring and evaluating performance of assigned personnel.
This position is classified as Essential personnel and candidates will be required to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays.
High school diploma or equivalent; certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission within the last three years; and one year experience as a sworn Police Officer. Two years of experience as a University Police Officer II or the equivalent is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license with no more than 5 points.
A Criminal Background Investigation, pre-employment physical, polygraph and psychological evaluation are required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
Salary and Benefits
